The Studios

A year-round curriculum is offered and directed by professional dancers who also personally conduct and supervise all classes with a professional approach to teaching. Our studio directors are teachers too, not just studio owners, with years of knowledge and experience in all areas of dance and the performing arts so you can count on receiving the very best training and guidance.

Celebrating 55 years on the Peninsula, the studios continue to be a tremendous asset to the community and beyond with classes offered in pre-ballet ballet advanced ballet pointe point toe dancing lyrical hip-hop jazz tap dancing acrobatics Highland dance baton and adult beginner classes are offered in sessions or by the month in adult hip hop, tap or exercise workouts. Student performances: our year end show / recital are held each year.

The studio is home to TDT a regional non-profit performing company dedicated to providing dance creation education and performance experience to local youth and young adults and each season our purpose remains constant: creating teaching and showing dance and theatrical works. The directors have produced many full-length shows over the years.

Students have performed for many community events locally and throughout the surrounding areas as well as performed in other states on the East Coast and traveled and performed abroad and performed for convalescent centers corporate events private events and numerous other functions. Directors have choreographed and provided performers for the XXXII AAU Junior Olympic Dance Team and students have toured Spain France Italy and performed in the Prestige International Festival, the Kick-off Classic Bowl at Giant Stadium, the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Florida, the "Spirit of America" Tour through Europe, the World's Fair in Knoxville, Tennessee to name a few and the dancers have been featured in the 1 hour documentary television program entitled "The Art of Dance" which airs periodically in the Tidewater area year after year while the program explores the opportunities available to dancers in the area, the growth of dance in Tidewater, and features the dancers performing in a classroom environment, barre technique and center floor technique, and various performances from repertoire. The dancers have appeared on Channel 3, the Morning Show "Live with Ester Pierre" with more than 20 dancers participating in the event.

Instructors have traveled to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands to teach and conduct the Baton Twirling Clinic produced by the Sebastien Majorettes & Marching Band and Shelvy Manning travels the world judging twirling events.

The dance studio has limited enrollment so please register early for combination classes for 3 - 5 year olds pre-ballet and tumbling classes. Once they fill up, they are full until there is an opening or another class forms, as we offer individual attention to all students. We have classes for children and teens in all subjects and on all levels and adult classes in hip hop, ballet, tap and jazz with continuous enrollment throughout the year as space is available and the dance school and dance studio has been home to many dancers, those taking for recreational purposes or those aiming to professional careers. The school has offered quality dance instruction to students attending classes from Hampton Newport News Gloucester York County Poquoson Virginia Beach Norfolk Chesapeake Denbigh Williamsburg and other surrounding areas convenient to Tidewater Hampton Roads Virginia.

Our baton program is the best around and continues to be run by Shelvy Manning who has produced numerous champion baton twirlers and university featured twirlers. Yearly the dancers and baton twirlers, flag carriers, dance and pom teams participate in the local parades and in dance and twirling competitions locally nationally aninternationally and the baton instructor hosts the Miss Majorette of Virginia a preliminary event to the prestigious Miss Majorette of America title with the program held in Notre Dame yearly, an official NBTA event. Some of the dancers also model and participate in bridal events and fashion shows and many train for professional dance careers.

Many Radio City Music Hall Rockettes trained at the studio under the direction of Elizabeth Evans and many students have gone into the fields of entertainment and show business performing in major stage shows around the globe. Many have appeared in shows in dinner theaters and performed in theme parks, Busch Gardens, Kings Dominion and Disney World Universal Studios while others have performed with university dance companies college dance teams. Many of the baton students have been featured twirlers at over 20 universities and colleges throughout the country. Many of our dance students and baton twirlers have gone on to teach and train young students of dance ballet tap jazz baton passing along what they have gained throughout their years of enjoyment of the art of dance. TDT, Inc. formed 1973

The studios are home to the Tidewater Dance Theater, Inc. a non-profit organization established in 1973 providing dance creation, education, and performance experience to local dancers. Many original works have been presented ranging from large theatrical works to smaller more intimate creations as well as a number of performance projects in collaboration with other artists and organizations.
