Shelvy Manning has personally instructed the baton twirling classes at Northampton Dance Studios / The Dance Center for over 40 years. She has produced many champion twirlers who have received awards and titles in all levels of competition.

Her long time student, Joel Claudio, is the 2015 WFNBTA Sr Men's Solo & 2-Baton World Champion and 2016 Congressional Cup Invitational Men's Champion! Student, Ciara Gillis, former twirler with the York High School Marching Falcons, is now a featured twirler with the UNC Chapel Hill Marching Tarheels. Student, Skyy Vines, won the Miss Majorette of Virginia in her division in 2016. Skyy and Ciara were the Miss Majorette of VA Int Duet Champions this past spring as well.

Shelvy is proud to have had students twirl at over 20 colleges and universities throughout the United States including East Carolina University, the University of Louisville, the College of William & Mary, Florida State University, Clemson University, the University of Tennessee, Jacksonville State University, Auburn University and the University of San Juan. Many have been seen as featured twirlers and received full or partial scholarships.

Shelvy received the 1988 Eastie Award for "Most Dedicated Person to the Advancement of Baton" at the "All East" Regionals.

In 1992, Shelvy became the director of the Miss Majorette of Virginia held anually in the Tidewater area, a state preliminary to the prestigious Miss Majorette of America title.

In 2002 Shelvy was honored as one of the first inductees into the Baton Twirling Museum Hall of Fame.

Shelvy continues to bring quality baton instruction to children, teens and young adults in the Tidewater area. Her classes are regularly scheduled and held on Wednesdays (afternoon and early evening) with private lessons available by appointment.
